Habitat for Humanity
The Depot Neighborhood | Traverse City, MI
Hanawalt Associates Architects
I was asked to create a SketchUp model of a planned Habitat for Humanity development in Traverse City. I also created a fly-through animation and a series of simple, watercolor-style renderings to help unify the animated fly through. The houses are designed by local architect David Hanawalt and are intended to be "net-zero" energy houses. Each house is designed to have a roof-mounted solar panel array and 12"-thick, super-insulated walls.
The development is within a 15-minute walk of Downtown Traverse City, city parks, and two grocery stores. It is also within a 20-minute walk of three schools and Northwestern Michigan College's Main, Maritime, and University Center campuses. It is also immediately adjacent to the regional TART trail, Boardman Lake, a community theater, a children's garden, a commercial corridor, and the main branch of the Traverse Area District Libraries.
A portion of the site is also to be developed with 11 duplex units by Homestretch and a mix of office and commercial uses.
