Daybreak | South Jordan, UT
Urban Design Associates
Daybreak is a private development on 4,126 acres of land owned by Rio Tinto’s Kennecott Copper in South Jordan, Utah. The development was started in 2004 with a vision to become a sustainable, walkable, economically-viable city with up to 20,000 residential units, 14 million square feet of commercial space, and a TRAX light rail connection to Salt Lake City.
Daybreak has been an enormous success with the completion of 2,500 energy-star compliant residences in three villages, the SoDa Row retail district, the Jordan River Utah Temple, and Rio Tinto’s corporate offices. The TRAX light rail and 208,000 square-foot University of Utah Medical Center will open soon.
Urban Design Associates of Pittsburgh has been closely involved with the design of the Daybreak Master Plan, Architectural Pattern Books, and many building and house designs.
In 2009 UDA was asked to design a clubhouse for the proposed Garden Park Neighborhood at Daybreak, a neighborhood emphasizing outdoor fitness and walking and marketed to retirees. A 10,240 square-foot clubhouse was proposed at the center of the neighborhood with fitness rooms, an outdoor pool, a demonstration kitchen, and gathering spaces.
I participated in the design process with UDA, providing plan and elevation studies, digital models, and perspective illustrations. Construction of the Garden Park Clubhouse was completed in 2011. Some of the images shown here (including the poster) were created by me solely for this website from digital models that I constructed during the design process.
